Bethany Nagy, 53, at Balmain and Saint Laurent

Balmain, fall 2024 ready-to-wear.
I started modeling in 1995 when I was 25, I was already at retirement age when I started.

Four months in, I was doing Neiman Marcus The Book, and other work.
I went to Paris and lived in Europe for a year, and it just took off from there.
I had no idea who he [Ferre] was.

Saint Laurent, fall 2024 ready-to-wear.
It was a Benjamin Button-throw in of rewind.
At that point they said I had two good years, that I was already too old.
But it just kept going.

Balmain, fall 2024 ready-to-wear.
I grew into an industry where most women retired at around 25.
It was very rare.
And now its turned into,I dont know,I think were okay with… women.

Anthony [Vaccarello] is such an amazing human being, and just so kind.
I thought I was retired prior to COVID-19.

It was around 2017 when I told myself I just didnt want to fight for scraps.
I dont want to do Botox commercials.
Thats just not who I am.

Weve been at this for a long time, so theres been an embrace, a very welcome embrace.
I did Balmain right now with Olivier Rousteing.
Its a nice place to be in the world.

Fforme, fall 2024
Its really been a lot of fun.
You get to enjoy it a little bit more, and have a different perspective on it.
But then I gave myself time to think about it and I was like, you know what?

Im just gonna do it.Whats the worst that can happen?
Sure I could fall, but I wasnt thinking that far in advance.
And its not like this isCarrieand theyre gonna drop a bucket of pigs blood on my head.

“Now, can you walk please?"

Now, can you walk just?"
And the great thing about Pauls clothes is that those are clothes that I would actually wear.

Final look.
The day of the show, I couldn’t believe how relaxed it was backstage.
(Laughs) Afterwards they were like,What are you doing after?
and meanwhile I was ready to go home and go to sleep.

Miu Miu, fall 2024.
Someone else was like I was waving, did you see me?
and I had to be like, Sorry guys, no.

I started modeling when I was 21 or 22.
I was in Milan at the timeIm Italianbut the business was very different.

[Back then] I was told that I was already too old to be a model.
But I kept working until about 39 or 40 and then stopped.
My line of work now…

I work for higher fashion clients and get better bookings.
So thats one way in which its different.
There is more acknowledgment of the humanity of a model, something that was completely left behind before.

Marine Serre, fall 2024 ready-to-wear
That has changed, and it makes me feel so much better.

Andreas Kronthaler for Vivienne Westwood, fall 2024 ready-to-wear
For the twoMiu Miushows Ive done, I was fortunate enough that I didnt have to do a casting.
Ashley Brokaw [a casting director] contacted my agency because they were interested in me.
This was back in September.

Everybody was really relaxed in the sense that there were no weird competitions or anything like that among models.
It was hectic because we had to get the job done, but it was all organized and fun.
She has a very human look in her eyes that puts you at ease.
It doesnt feel like youre being scrutinized, it feels like youre part of the whole project.
She had a smile for everybody.
I have to confess, being a part of this is something that makes me very proud.
How to face it, how to be accepting of it.
This is a push towards aging gracefully, because all of the models that were over 40 were different.
None of them had their hair dyed, for example, it was so refreshing.
Its a step towards accepting oneself and towards accepting beauty in everything.
Aging is a process, its up to us to make it beautiful.
I feel super good about my age and I feel young.
I love to be part of Marine Serre and Ester Manass shows because they push about inclusivity.
Do you want to go back to modeling?
And I was like, No, Im doing my horse thing and stuff.
He contacted me several times after.
That goes completely with my philosophy.Marine Serreis the reason why I came back.
I had a really good season in Paris this year.
I did Vivienne Westwood for the first time since I stopped modeling.
I think Andreas came back really strong alone.
Vivienne was really, really in love with him.
[Eventually] I went to Paris where I got my chance with Elite.

Whatever you put your mind to, just do it and then youll see if it works or not.
Just go for it.
