Originally from Detroit, Bobbi has never attended or performed at SXSW before.
Its surreal to come back and be on aRolling Stonelineup, she says.
Both of them always knew they wanted to be artists.

They grew up performing for their families, who they still count as their primary inspirations.
I feel like this is what we always knew we were going to do, says Bobbi.
Though Bobbi made the first move to collaborate, it was Folayan who officially proposed they become a group.

She wasnt down on one knee or anything, clarifies Bobbi.
But I like to make it sound like it was a real proposal, Folayan interjects.
I thought we could be stars together.
She convinced Bobbi that they had a real chance to take off on social media.
I told Bobbi, We could get just as many views, she recalls.
Bobbi nods her head in agreement, adding, And look at us now.

The duo are officially known as Flyana Boss, an entendre that works on three levels.

(Both their mothers are massive fans of the iconic Motown singer.)
Shes just the epitome of grace and Black excellence, continues Bobbi.
She was a groundbreaking trailblazer of her time, and we want to be the same.
Thats such a waste of time, says Bobbi.
Youre still invested in this whether you share your goals with people or not.
Youre still going to be heartbroken if things dont happen, so I just say go for it.

Before they became viral hitmakers, Flyana Boss had experienced a few brief glimmers of internet success.
We tried everything, says Bobbi.
We dida lotof TikTok dances.
But You Wish was a different story entirely.
Maybe it was the attention-grabbing opener, Hello, Christ?
I want a Billboard top-10 hit, says Bobbi, matter-of-factly.
We want to build a whole world and take people on a journey, says Bobbi.
Since they first got together, Bobbi and Folayan havent given much thought to competing with other artists.
While Bobbi revels in wordplay (I be triple A, all these broke hoes that Im towin on.
They also havent closed themselves off to other avenues.
We want to do a whole TV show based around our friendship one day, says Folayan.
So stay tuned for that.
Theyve set out to make music that speaks to an unapologetic sense of joy and sex positivity.
Their shows reflect that.
Its like being under a warm blanket, but in the middle of a party, Folayan says.
With some glitter, and some razzle-dazzle, adds Bobbi.
