Before 2025 had even begun, Id already decided that I was going to be entering my IDGAF era.

I can be quiet in large groups, for example, and sometimes refrain from sharing my opinion.

Ive tried that already, and failed.

And I also dont intend on suddenly becoming callous or sociopathic.

I decided to giveDaniel Glasera ring.

Hes a renowned neuroscientist, and has written extensively about how neurobiology in particular relates to human behavior.

He tells me that Ive been coming at all of this wrong.

Its not that I care about what other people think, becauseI dont know what they think.

Instead, Ive been telling myself stories about what they think, and those stories have been negative.

We make things real, and then those things change how we act.

So, how do we get rid of that inner critic?

Well, according to Glaser, human brains are hugely suggestible.

They dont take much convincing (which is why you tend to feel happier if you physically smile).

So you basically have to replace the critical voices with positive ones.

Instead, we need toswap outthe elephant for something else.

Those negative thoughts areshock, horroractually coming from you.

Humans are social creatures, and its beneficial to pay attention to what others are paying attention to.

(Nobody wants to be that guy who cant read the room.)

You said wonderful things at dinner the other night, remember?

And actually, everybody found you hilarious.
