I did what Malala would do, she tells Bisma, who is visibly horrified.
When the song ends, shes never seen againbut its a moment you never forget.
So, how exactly did this improbable cowgirl cameo come about?

Ahead of the shows release, Yousafzai Zoomed me from her living room to answer all my burning questions.
I can see immediately why Manzoor recruited her.
Vogue: Firstly, were you a fan of the show in Season 1?

Malala Yousafzai in her cowgirl cameo in Episode 2 ofWe Are Lady Parts, Season 2, with Ayesha (Juliette Motamed), Momtaz (Lucie Shorthouse), Amina (Anjana Vasan), Saira (Sarah Kameela Impey), and Bisma (Faith Omole).
Malala Yousafzai:Yes, I binge-watched it in a day.
It was so good.
And I remember when I finished the six episodes, I was still just sitting there.

Malala takes the reins while the band sings “Malala Made Me Do It.”
I could not believe that the show was just that short.
I said, I need another season, I need more episodes, I need them to be longer.
I need more content like this.
I know it wasNida who reached out with a letter to you, but youd both met before?
So, I went to the premiere ofPolite Societyand I saw her speak there.
That film is a masterpiece.
I thanked Nida for making it, and for makingWe Are Lady Parts.
Theyre so important and reach so many people.
But, Ive always been behind the scenesI never expected to be in a show myself.
Now, Im finally showing my hidden talent.
Did you always know youd say yes?
Did you have any questions for Nida?
I was like, What will it look like?
Do I have dialogue?
How many times do I have to do it?
How long will it take?
When I saw the set on the day of filming, it was completely beyond my wildest imagination.
And the funny thing was, I didnt have lines, so it made things a lot easier.
What was the day like?
Then I saw the costume and my cowboy hatit was gorgeous.
I saw the horse, and I was speechless [laughs].
I thought,How do I get on that?
The most beautiful part was when the band came to set, and the bits we recorded together.
And your costume is stunning.
What was your favorite thing about it?
A lot of times, people cant figure it out.
I said, I want to look good.
When I saw the look and the hat, I knew theyd thought about it.
I was really happy.
I love seeing you in your cowgirl era, following in the footsteps ofBeyonceandBella Hadid.
Malala takes the reins while the band sings Malala Made Me Do It.
It is heartbreaking and terrifying to have witnessed these moments.
People are so angry and cant believe this could happen right in front of our eyes.
For me at this time, I feel like humanizing people is so important.
Its one of the biggest challenges we face.
I want people in Palestine not to be dehumanized.
I want people to see those children as humans.
They need a ceasefire, they need humanitarian aid, they need peace.
Everybody wants a life where they can play sports, watch TV, go to school.
This indiscriminate bombing needs to stop.
I think thats really important.
Ive only seen the first three episodes, so no spoilers yo [laughs].
Its a very entertaining and powerful show.
Malala Made Me Do It is such a banger.
And thats what Malala Made Me Do It is about.
It made me feel really proud.
I hope that we can keep inspiring girls and young women to believe in themselves and be change-makers.
Why did you want to be a part of this project?
Secondary and tertiary education is banned.
Women are not allowed to do any work.
They cannot even go to a park, or a gym, or a salon.
The womens ministry does not exist anymore.
What I really like aboutBread and Rosesis that it is the Afghan women who are directly speaking to us.
They are refusing to live under the Talibans systematic oppression, which Afghan activists are calling a gender apartheid.
I really hope people watch this documentary.
We Are Lady PartsSeason 2 is now streaming on Peacock.
