In November 2023, Barry surprised Lulu with a proposal surrounded by their family and friends.
Barry popped the question with a vintage ring featuring mine-cut diamonds that sit in the shape of a flower.
I really thought she would be moved by that.
The ring reminds Lulu of their garden.
Im not a big jewelry person, but it feels very me, she says.
The beautiful thing about Barry is that oftentimes I don’t know myself enough.
He really knows me.
Despite their engagement, Lulu and Barry were not rushing to plan a wedding.
Were not big wedding people.
Were not traditional at all, she says.
When I went to go see her, she welcomed me and my ancestors into the room.
Among them was her beloved grandmother, who inspiredThe Farewelland died in 2020.
Your grandma is here and shes saying,Get married, get married.
Lulus grandmother wasnt the only matriarch present that day.
We can still have a wedding at some point, but lets just listen to this message.
I mean I was floored enough that we were at the Santa Barbara courthouse less than a week later.
They were joined by four friends and their dog, Chauncey.
Chauncey also dressed for the occasion in a pinstripe tuxedo shirt and bow tie.
When Barrys filmMufasapremiered in December they knew that it was the perfect opportunity to gather everyone.
Deceiving them onwhatwas being celebrated was the key, Barry says.
We didnt want people to make it a big deal.
We kept it pretty small and had it at our house in our backyard, Lulu says.
Its safe to say they pulled off the surprise.
I heard an audible gasp.
Id seen that dress on the runway and told her how much I loved it, Lulu says.
We got these blush ranunculus that we put inside the dress.
It was all real flowers and it matched the bouquet.
