In the world of Hollywood award shows, this year got off to a turbulent start.

Id say hes already off to a good start.
Its literally impossible to host the Oscars.
You have to be extraordinary, but somehow youre always doing it wrong.
Like, you have to make fun of people, but you cant maketoomuch fun of people.
And you have to give everyone enough time, but you cant go long.
And you are the center of attention, but almost nobody cares youre there.
Nobody says thank you, and everyone has something critical to say online.
If it goes well, no one says anything.
But if it doesnt, its your fault.
Kudos to Kimmel for alsopoking fun at the Academys snubsin the segment.
When Gosling (nominated for best supporting actor) declares, Gretas got director in the bag!
an alarmed-looking Ferrera informs him that Greta Gerwig was not, in fact, nominated in that category.
Not that he really needed to be worried.
We have a pretty good sense of what were going to get from him.
On Sunday night, hell likely command the stage with an Oh, this old hosting gig?
attitude, and the same dont-shoot-the-messenger joke delivery that hes perfected on his own show.
But I think whatreallypowers Kimmels humor is the fact that hes got nothing to prove.
I got paid $15,000 to host the Oscars, he told Sykes.
It sounds like a lot for one night, but its months of work leading up to it.
I dont have talents, really, he says.
Its not like I have a secret love for dance.
Ill go out and tell some jokes.
Theyll either laugh or they wont, and afterward theyll say, You were terrible.
