The leader of the Labour Party, Keir Starmer, celebrates his victory in the 2024 U.K. general election.

Its depressing that the new governments policies are probably going to mean a continuation of spending cuts.

Starmer has also said that the UK will not rejoin the European Union in his lifetime.

Its not surprising that so many voters have felt disillusioned.

The last 14 years have been brutal, and pressing issuessuch as climate catastropherequire radical solutions.

We wont be getting them, at least not yet.

That doesnt mean, however, that the right wont view this as the Starmergeddon the headlines promised.

What would I like to see?

Childcare, austerity, healthcare, the gender pay gap.

Better access to fertility treatment and a dramatic overhaul of maternity and paternity leave policy would also be welcome.

Many of us hope that this will be reflected in the legislative agenda.

After such a long Conservative reign, theres a feeling of unreality to events.
