Heres something that probably isnt groundbreaking: I dont findthe festive periodrelaxing.

I get tetchy and uncomfortable when I dont feel in control of my own routine.

All that wrapping paper and turkey in the fridge.

The reds and the greensgarish!

Its a sensory horror show.

Call me Scrooge, but I dont consider the festive period a vacation as such.

A celebration, yes, a joyous time, lots of laughsbut not a vacation.

Im taking a post-Christmas vacation.

A break after the festive break.

A recovery period to recover from the recovery period.

And Im starting to think its something of a life hack.

But I think that would miss the point entirely.

If Christmas is for others, then the post-Christmas holiday can be a much more personal endeavor.

But it does mean listening to myself more closely and thinking about what it is I really want.

So thats what Im going to do.

Obviously, a post-Christmas vacation isnt going to work for everyone.

Maybe youd rather stash your holiday for the summertime.

Or for another time when its not icy and dismal on this side of the world.

Im starting a new tradition this year.

Im starting as I mean to go on: by taking a break when I actually need one.
